Sacred Versus Secular

Some excerpts from OS Hillman's book "Faith and Work: Do They Mix":

"More and more people are desiring to know how to practically implement their faith with their work. Is there really a move of God in the workplace today? How can I make decisions in the workplace that make a radical difference?"

Have you heard those that say they are called to the mission field...and they are referring to China, Africa, South America, or some other third world country? We fail to remember that our mission field is exactly where we are! Our home, our workplace, the marketplace, our neighbors, and our schools. OS Hillman says "They are all fertile fields requiring full-time missionaries! True, some are called to the foreign mission field, but all are called to the mission field no matter what the landscape is like."

A.W. Tozer says "It is not what a man does that determines whether his work is sacred or secular, it is why he does it. The motive is everything. Let a man sanctify the Lord God in his heart and he can thereafter do no common act. All he does is good and acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For such a man, living itself will be sacramental and the whole world a sanctuary. His entire life will be a priestly ministration."

Psalm 90:17 "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us: establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands."

Col. 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Proverbs 18:9 "One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys."

Col. 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
